Project Compost is a student-run, student-funded unit of the Associated Students of the University of California, Davis (ASUCD) managed by four student staff members as well as numerous volunteers and interns.
Project Compost has two goals: Education and Action. The Education slate involves offering free composting workshops through the Experimental College, making presentations to clubs and classrooms and making home compost consultations as well as constructing compost bins to distribute. The Action portion entails daily compost pickups from the Dining Commons, ASUCD Coffee House, the Pomology Department, the Greenhouse, coffee kiosks and several labs on campus. Project Compost collects over 1,000 pounds of food matter daily on these pick up trips. Members of the Project then compost this organic matter on the Student Farm.
