Home to the first bike lanes in the entire nation, the city of Davis has been dubbed the Bicycle Capital of the U.S. On campus, bicycling is the number one mode of transportation! Another unique aspect of UC Davis other than its love for biking is its student-run Bike Barn. Located near the Silo across from Peter Rock Hall, students can bring their bikes to the Bike Barn to be serviced by fellow student mechanics. You can expect to be greeted by a friendly and caring staff that is eager to help you with all your bike related needs.

Founded in 1971, the ASUCD Bike Barn has been servicing students, staff, and faculty for 50 years! During the beginning of operations, students could bring in their bikes for servicing by student mechanics or rent the necessary tools to work on their own bikes. Today, services provided through the Bike Barn include general repair, rentals, and merchandise/part sales. Though the Bike Barn itself has gone through several renovations over the past decades, its original goal and mission have stayed the same.

Students at the Bike Barn have always prioritized providing bike education to the UC Davis community. Along with their goal of greater bike accessibility, senior staff at the Bike Barn also have made efforts to ensure the bike mechanic position is accessible to all students. In fact, the majority of student mechanics started at the Bike Barn with little to no experience working on bikes. Senior staff provide new mechanics with a combination of both hands-on and traditional learning. This approach to teaching allows new mechanics to have a more personalized education in bike mechanics and senior staff the ability to be more creative in their methods of training.

The community-oriented environment that the Bike Barn fosters for both its customers and staff are what differentiate it from other bike repair shops throughout Davis. Not only does the Bike Barn provide affordable rates for services and repairs, but they also can give you a 20 point inspection of your bike free of cost!
