Hello! We are the Office of Transfer Student Representative (OTSR), an office within the Executive Branch of ASUCD. Our mission is to cultivate an equitable transfer environment and to expand collegiate opportunities for current and prospective transfer students. We are currently working on a variety of projects, including a survey aimed to understand the current struggles of transfer students as well as several transfer-related events. Additionally, we are helping to pass statewide legislation that will benefit all California transfer students.

We have several members within our office, including the interim Transfer Student Representative (TSR), Logan Ueno. The TSR works closely with the ASUCD executive branch, as well as UC Davis faculty, to advocate for transfer student issues. Logan (he/him) is a Political Science major, minoring in History, who transferred from Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA.

The Chiefs of Staff for the OTSR are Andrew Nickens (he/him) from Folsom Lake College, who is majoring in Political Science and Public Service and minoring in Professional Writing, and Hannah Hyland (she/her) from Antelope Valley College, who is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Education. The Chiefs of Staff for the OTSR work to plan and run meetings, plan projects for the office, delegate tasks, and assist other office members.

The Director of Internal Relations is Jaina Jogia (she/her) from Las Positas College, who is majoring in Genetics and Genomics and minoring in Global Disease Biology. The Director of Internal Relations works with other campus resources and organizations as well as with faculty to ensure opportunities for transfers are available and known.

The Director of External and Government Relations is Ananya Bapat (she/her) from De Anza College, who is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Japanese. The Director of External and Government Relations works with programs and services outside of the OTSR to help transfer students. The Director is in communication with the Office of the External Affairs Vice President (OEAVP) for lobbying and advocacy purposes.

Finally, our (amazing) social media posts have been created by our Director of Communications and Outreach, Momina Nadeem (she/her) from Mission College, who is majoring in Psychology with a biology emphasis and minoring in Education. The Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible for all of the office’s external communications and public messaging, which entails social media, a mailing list, and maintaining connections with key transfer organizations on campus. Additionally, the Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible for planning events for transfer students on campus, the most notable being the annual Transfer Welcome Panel for admitted transfer students.

If we at the OTSR could give one piece of advice to fellow transfer students, we would say that transfer shock is common and it impacts almost all transfers! Transfer shock is a common phenomena among transfer students in which students experience a temporary dip in GPA during their first quarter, as they are adjusting to the new environment and workload. It’s easy to be discouraged and feel like an imposter when you experience this sudden grade drop, but it’s a lot more common than you’d think. As the transfer student body continues to grow, we hope to bring awareness to transfer shock so it can be better addressed and prevented as students make the transition to UC Davis.

There are lots of ways to get in touch with us! Firstly, check out our Instagram page (@asucd.tsr) or subscribe to our ListServ for frequent updates and events. The TSR, Logan Ueno, also holds weekly office hours for more individualized discussions. He can be reached at (ltueno@ucdavis.edu or TSR@asucd.ucdavis.edu). Also, be on the lookout for our website, which will be published soon. OTSR also has many vacancies opening up for Fall 2022, so if you’re interested in working on addressing transfer student issues with our office, we invite you to apply by searching “OTSR” on the ASUCD vacancies page. We at the OTSR are looking forward to continuing transfer student advocacy work!
